Before
you should even contemplate CFFN membership, you need to understand how
it works. It teaches two circles, or degrees, of the UEW tradition of
Wicca. This page assumes you understand the concepts of tradition,
degrees and the idea that Wicca is a religion. If this is beyond your
current knowledge, please take a while to read up on Wicca. I suggest,
of course,
All
One Wicca, but if that is too long to read,
Gamma's Helpful Page
presents questions and answers about Wicca in a relatively simple
format. Assuming you are familiar with these concepts, you should be
aware that CFFN is set up as a teaching coven, a coven that exists not
as a community but as a place where one comes, learns, and moves on. To
stop people from getting stuck in their journey, it is designed to take
a maximum of nine months, and a minimum of six, to get through the
first circle. The second circle is longer, one full year at the
minimum. At the end of the journey you should be prepared to function
within the community, off-line, as a Wiccan of the UEW tradition.
Further studies and distinctions exist, and they can be read about at
the cuew web site,
cuew.org
.
The first
circle consists of six one month lesson sets. They are divided into six
categories as explained below:
- Set One: The History of Wicca, UEW, and CFFN. What makes us
different, how we operate and why we are here.
- Set Two: The Beliefs of Wicca, Past and Present, Wiccan
vocabulary and ethics.
- Set Three: The Foundations of Practice I: The Concept of the
Circle, tools, an introduction to visualization.
- Set Four: Gods and Elements: The First Two Visualizations, The
concepts of Gods used in Wicca.
- Set Five: Concepts of Identity: The Second Two Visualizations,
ideas of community.
- Set Six: Putting it together: Living as a Wiccan, incorporating
the Gods, visualizations and circles.
When you are
accepted into CFFN, your start date will be explained in your entrance letter. There will be no more than 10 students accepted for any given month's class. You will then be expected to submit lessons by the end of each calendar month thereafter. If you are late on your lessons, or request to be, you will be "left back," meaning that you have a month "off" and don't have to complete your assignment lesson until the next month. If you are left back three times, you are
removed from CFFN permanently. This is harsh, but it's something we need to do if we are going to keep training people to the best of our ability.
You can, of course, leave
voluntarily by contacting us and explaining why. This is VERY
important, because if you do not turn in acceptable materials for three
months running, which includes not turning in ANY materials for three
months running, you will not be able to come back to CFFN even if you
want to. If you need to take a leave of absence for up to six months,
you may HOLD at a lesson by turning in the materials for that lesson
and contacting us requesting a hold and explaining why you need it. It
will not be granted unless it is an emergency!
The reason new applicants
to the first circle are limited to 10 a month is that you will be
getting a one-on-one learning experience with the mentors and Leadership of CFFN. You send in your lessons to a designated email address, and they will then be reviewed and responses sent back to you.
There is an optional chat list,
as well, that you will be invited to, but you are not allowed to
discuss lessons on it.
