In order to be an active participant in UEW, one has to be an adult. While the definition of adult varies from group to group, this belief mandates that UEW affect an anti-baptism stance.
While a ritual can be done to protect or watch over the child, UEW forbids the use of official rituals that claim that a child is a member of the tradition, and disdains the use of rituals with the idea of determining a child's faith before they can make such determinations for themselves.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR CLERGY:
If asked to provide a baptism ritual, you'll have to decline. Offer a substitute ritual, like a blessing or a naming ritual, one that asks the powers that be to watch over and protect the child, but that doesn't infringe upon that child's religious choice.
