Statement
on Nudity and Public Policy
Due to recent events and actions by non-UEW Pagan Clergy, AUEWC has had
to clarify its position on nudity and public policy. This clarification
is one of those "no duh" clarifications that we put out every few years,
and it is expected that anyone with the knowledge and intelligence required
to be a member of UEW would not need to be told this, that common sense,
instead, would prevail.
REFRAIN
FROM PUBLISHING PICTURES OF SKYCLAD RITUALS
If your coven or solitary practice involves pictures of nudity and you
wish to place them on the net, you may do so with impunity, but please
respect the rights of others to not view full frontal nudity or worse.
The human body is a glorious, beautiful, wonderful machine, but not everyone
wants their children to view it, so, if you DO post pictures of naked people,
please do at least one of the following (in order from worst to best):
-
Rate the Website
with a blocking software that allows you to specify that nudity appears
on your page.
-
Use a link or
javascript that makes those viewing it affirm that they are 18 years old
or older.
-
Use an age-affirming
service that requires a credit card number.
-
Digitize, smear
or black out "parts" Or use creative methods of covering up. Put a few
potted plants in the shot!
-
Put the pictures
on an area that requires a password and share the password with those the
images are for
This should not
be read to mean that art using the naked body is unacceptable, just that
real life images of naked people are not deemed acceptable on a family-friendly
religion website, and if your website is not family friendly it should
not be a religion website for the general public! This isn't a CUEW stance, put public opinion, and we warn you in the spirit of openness, but also with the firm stance that if you post such pictures and have trouble resulting from it CUEW will not be showing up in court to defend your pictures being posted to the net as a religious right or sacrement.
In addition,
there is this following list of advice, from a friend in the adult entertainment
industry which explains the way nudity should be postedon a website or
newsletter (it was she who suggested the ideas above, too)
-
Everyone in the
shot must give full consent for the publication of the photo, this includes
non-nudes in the photo.
-
The shot must
have a copyright notice on the graphic itself, to reduce theft.
-
Everyone affiliated
with the website or newsletter must be made aware of the shot, and, if
required, the shot should be removed.
-
A Javascript preventing
left clicks is helpful in reducing the amount of theft.-Many theives are stupid.
-
Those for whom
the "appearance of impropriety" may result in job loss should be
removed from the shot.
-
Those for whom
the "appearance of impropriety" may result in job loss should not be affilated
with the shot.
-
The realization
must be made that publication increases the likihood of the shot falling
into "the wrong hands"
We hope this has
added clarity to a pretty clear issue. As with all things, a simple search
inside would probably arrive at the same conclusions.
I won't lie to you-we've only posted this as a result of other groups having problems, primarily resulting from lack of thinking on the part of members of those groups. CUEW will be involved if your civil rights are violated, but we are not responsible for those people who find themselves in a sticky situation from their bad judgement and try to make it a civil rights issue when it isn't.
