Are You a Mandatory Reporter? All 50 states in the US have one form or another of a Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting law. MOST of these laws include Clergy, and religious educators as "Manditory reporters" CUEW DOES NOT allow knowledge of a current abuser to be held in confidence, EVEN IN those states that allow a "confession"-type confidentiality regarding Child Abuse, CUEW will not back such a claim. CUEW Clergy are not required to maintain confidence in instances of a crime in which another is grossly harmed (ie:murder, rape, child abuse, assault) BUT ARE expected to maintain confidences about personal crimes and domestic issues discussed in private (ie:drug use, breech of marriage contract, lying, etc.) If you are a mandatory reporter and you DO NOT report a suspicion of child abuse (or the requirement of the state in which you are living) you may be held liable for the abuse if it continues.
